The Plan, Part 5

The Plan, Part 5
It was early in the morning.
“Well, I’m still here,” thought Oran. “I guess that Traitor won’t do anything to me. That ought to make it just that much easier. She won’t even be expecting it.”
            He chuckled to himself quietly.
He sat up from his sleeping area, looked around, and concluded he was the only one awake.
Maybe he could sneak out, while the others were asleep. He didn’t have a clock, so he wasn’t sure how early it was.
            He got up.
Maybe the others wouldn’t notice him leaving, if he could move quietly enough.
He started stepping toward the stair way. To the Hatch door.
“I hope no one wakes…” He started thinking.
Aleck was waking up.
“Drat,” Oran said to himself, grimacing slightly.
“Good morning, Oran.” Aleck quietly said, sitting up.
Oran replied with a Good Morning of his own, hoping he didn’t look suspicious.
“I see you’re up before Jerin and me.” Aleck then said.
“Yeah, I was, uhh…” He had to come up with something fast, “just getting ready ahead of time. Sorry if I had woken you,” Oran replied.
Hopefully he would buy it.
“It’s alright. It’s probably a good idea to get up a little earlier so we can keep track of the City Guard’s rounds.”
Oran then walked over to his sleeping area and picked up his personal bag. He quickly looked through it.
Good, it was still in there.
He closed it back up and put it over his shoulder. Hopefully they won’t ask what was in his bag.
Aleck was waking Jerin up and told him to get ready to go.
“What do you have in that bag?” asked Aleck.
Oran must have spoken too soon.
“Oh, just some paper and other utensils I collected as I was traveling around. Found some in a house around where we saw each other a day ago.” Oran replied.
Hopefully that would be enough. It was part of the truth, anyway. They couldn’t know what else he had in the bag.
“Good! Now we have something to record when we have sightings of City Guards or Searchers.”
“That’ll work!” Jerin interjected.
“Alright, that will be fine, sorry I hadn’t told you about it before.” Oran said to the other Strays.
“Okay, enough small talk, let’s go,” said Aleck.
Sheer was then waking up.
Aleck walked over to her and told her that he and the other two Strays were going out to check on the Searcher and City Guard rounds, and that it would probably be a while before they would be back.
She sat up, and looked around.
She saw that the three had walked over to the supply shelf, and helped themselves before they had to leave.
Oran was the first finished, and it looked like he was ready to go soon.
The other two finished up, all of them said Bye to Sheer, and then they exited the Hatch, and were off.

The Villain Researcher was still injecting the mutagen when the subject woke up, broke out of his restraints, head colliding with the Researcher injecting, toppling them over. The vial of Mutagen then fell to the ground and shattered, leaving a puddle of the chemical on the ground.
When the subject was scurrying off the operation table, he planted his right foot right on top of the shattered vial, by accident, and the mutagen seeped into the subject’s foot. They howled in pain, and dashed to the door labeled “Exit, Emergencies Only”. But he didn’t care, he just wanted out of that place.
Ezbaan didn’t have the anesthetic ready yet, but the subject was already escaping.
The alarm went off in the Lab, and Castle Guards were on their way to the scene.
“Should we go after him, boss? Maybe send some Searchers after him?” one of the Researchers asked the Leading Villain Researcher, Darkon.
“No, let him go,” he said sternly. “The mutagen had a negative effect, and must have reacted to the anesthetic that we injected into him earlier. He’ll probably just die within a few days or so. Just let it run its course. I’ll have to report this to the Leaders, so you guys get to work on cleaning this place up. Also, if any Searchers do find the subject, they’re welcome to take’em out.”
Then Darkon left the Lab, and went to report the incident to the Villain Leaders, as was required of him if there were some sort of mishap in the Lab.
As soon as the doors to the Lab opened, the Castle Guards stepped in.  The head of the group, Melech, sent the rest of his squad in and he stayed behind to ask Darkon what had happened.
